Harvest produce was sent to the Padley Centre in Derby. This centre helps the homeless. The produce was given at our Harvest service in October 2009. We have supported the centre in this way over many years.
Thank you for your continued giving.

We raised nearly £700 through the generosity of children, staff and parents and we would like to thank all those who gave so generously.

The Christmas Cabaret 2009.

On the 15th and16th of December our school put on a Christmas concert.

We had many brilliant comments and we had many parents in tears.
The 22 talented pupils (including the choir and 8P) tried their absolute best. Miss Kennedy was extremely proud of everyone involved.
The very first act was Maisie Thompson-Smith singing ‘Away in a manger'. Maisie sang this beautifully. She had her Mum and Dad in tears!
There were many more singing acts and there were some very talented year 5's that were playing their instruments.

There were some multi-talented singing and dancing acts.
On behalf of the children at Windsor we would like to a big thank you to every one who came and to the compares Lily, Mickey, Jenny and Mitchell. Also a very big thank you to Miss Kennedy for letting us put on these very exiting nights.
We hope that you have enjoyed it as much as we did!

Nanowrimo

Throughout the month of November, around 20 pupils from Windsor Park were busy writing their own novels. Working with Play Aways East Staffordshire's Play Worker, Miriam Gale, they took part in the National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo). Confusingly, Nanowrimo is a global event with over 100,000 people attempting to write novels of 50,000 words in 30 days.

The young writers programme allows young people to set their own totals and pupils from Windsor Park wrote between 5000 and 30,000 words within the month.

The emphasis of the month is to encourage creativity and fun. Play Aways runs free creative sessions in community groups in East Staffordshire in partnership with East Staffordshire Borough Council, the Community Council of Staffordshire and the Big Lottery Fund.

Chris d’ Lacey Visit to Windsor

Windsor Park school was delighted to welcome author Chris d’ Lacey into school on Thursday October 8th to celebrate National Children’s Book week. Chris has written over 27 books in a range of genres and has been nominated for several awards for his children’s books. His talk to the children about how he began his writing career and where his ideas have come from, was delivered in a very humorous and entertaining style that kept the children interested and engaged. All of the children were very positive about meeting him and well over 100 of his books were sold on the day. Thanks to all the parents who supported their children by providing them with the money to buy their signed copies.

Let us spray - message to the burglars
PUPILS have sent a clear message to potential burglars that they will be caught thanks to an invisible DNA spray.

Windsor Park Middle School was the first school in Uttoxeter to be treated to an exhibition of SmartWater - a special DNA-style liquid developed by a private company.

Within each kit is a unique batch of the liquid which is painted onto valuable equipment and leaves its own permanent ‘forensic fingerprint'.

PCSO Sean Elliott visited the school to show youngsters how to apply SmartWater to their valuable IT equipment.

Each of the 19 schools within the Uttoxeter pyramid is to be issued with the technology to mark its computers, interactive whiteboards and multimedia projectors.

Schools are also being supplied with signs which are prominently placed on their buildings and highlight to potential burglars that all equipment has been marked.

Sergeant John Edwards, of Uttoxeter police, said: "Equipment is permanently marked and can easily be traced back to its owner. The invisible liquid can also be used as a spray system to forensically tag the burglar, enabling us to identify offenders. School burglars in our area are now facing a greater risk of being caught."

Royal Institute’s Mathematics Masterclasses at Staffordshire University
Mr P Halfpenny (Head of Mathematics)

Over a period of six weeks during February and March, four of our more able Y8 students attended the Royal Institute’s Mathematics Masterclasses at Staffordshire University (Stafford Campus).

This series of Saturday morning classes covered many advanced topics including Fractals, Puzzles and Proofs, Probability, Infinite Series and Juggling.  On the last session the pupils from Windsor Park (Charlotte Vickers, Tiffany Palmer, Kieran Stone and Charlotte Flower) were presented with their certificates by Dr Colin Wright the famous juggling mathematician. The photograph shows the students displaying their certificates.

     StopWatch Theatre Company                        Presents

                  "Arson About"

The StopWatch Theatre Company came to visit our school to perform Mark Wheeler’s prevention play “Arson About”.  The Y8’s watched the performance and will carry out some follow-up work in their PSHE lessons. The story was a very tragic, layered and thought provoking performance where a character gets killed as a result of peer pressure and being in the wrong place at the wrong time.  The workshop continued to address the wider effects upon the community when the emergency services are called out to such incidents, and the grief caused to friends, family, emergency service men/women, colleagues and so on.

Top Brass

Top Brass visited our school on Monday and performed a range of music to the whole school. The workshop included scientific explanations of how the specific instruments worked and a general introduction of the variety of instruments in a brass
arrangement.

The school enjoyed watching and listening to Match of the Day, Drunken Sailor, Swing Low, Summer Time, Skip to my Lou and many other classics.

Sergeant Gary J. Kite AFCO (RAF) Birmingham arranged the delivery of a variety of sports equipment to Windsor Park Middle School today by Helicopter.

The RAF landed on the school sports field at 12.00 today. The whole school gathered on the playground to watch the School Council meet and greet the pilots and thank them. There was a short presentation on the school playground where the equipment was received and thanks were given by the School Council.

The enormous equipment bags contained football kits, netball kits, training bibs, netball stands, netball posts and post protectors. All kits had the school logo and The Royal Air force logo on.

Our visitors joined the School Council for lunch and left around one o'clock. The helicopter hovered for a few last seconds whist the whole school quickly gathered to wave good bye.
Two pupils from the School council were lucky enough to sit in the helicopter with the pilot during the photo shoot. Lily Hassall and Peter Walker.

Fangtastic response!

Book sale benefits Windsor Park Middle School

Windsor Park opened its gates to the public for its annual book fair.
WPMS had a large display of all kinds of books to encourage children to read for leisure at the event.
The fair was set up through the day and the whole community was invited to go along and buy some books.
All of the children were escorted down to the hall during their English lessons to purchase books throughout the day.
The sale sold over £1,300 worth of books of which the school received £700 for new literature for the library.
Head of English Mrs Upton said: "It was slightly less than last year but it shows people are still reading for leisure. There was a fantastic response from the children and I am pleased it was another successful event here at WP"

School band rocks judges'
socks off

A GROUP of budding rock stars from Burton have beaten off competition to secure a place in the grand final of a countywide battle of the bands.

D Fused, who all attend de Ferrers Specialist Technology College, in Horninglow, will now compete in the Staffordshire Rocks grand final which takes place in Stafford in July.

The band, who have already won a Marshall amplifier for their school for getting so far in the competition, will take on the winners of the northern and central heats.

The regional heat was held at Thomas Alleyne's High School, in Dove Bank, Uttoxeter, with five bands vying for a coveted place in the grand final.

These included Vacancy Lost and Picture This, both comprising pupils from Alleyne's, and Cross 26, from Windsor Park Middle School, also in Uttoxeter.

Also taking part were Brightside, from Queen Elizabeth Mercian School, in Tamworth.

Although the Burton band was the winner, all is not lost for Uttoxeter's entrants as they could still be selected as 'wildcard' candidates for the final.

Best seller! Author pays visit
A PROFESSIONAL author has visited pupils at a Uttoxeter school to give a talk about his work.

Mark Robson is a best selling author of fantasy fiction for young adults and he dropped in to Windsor Park Middle School on Friday.

Mr Robson's books include the Dragon Orb series, The Forging of the Sword and Rail of the Huntress.

Head of English, at Windsor Park, Yvonne Upton, is a big fan of Mr Robson's work and thinks her pupils benefitted from meeting him.

She said: "Mark's visit was part of our National Book Week celebrations, which we have every year.

"I think he provides a role model for the boys, because he was in the RAF before becoming an author.

"Although his work is based on fantasy he manages to incorporate his own experiences into it."

 Team Cuisine 2009

Our pupils and staff supported Red Nose day with a non-uniform day dressing in all the
colours of the rainbow! The day started with our Office Team (staff) selling the
red noses in the school pavilion. During the day there were many sweepstakes,
jokes, sponsored silences (which the staff welcomed!!!), pupils sponsored to
wear PJ’s all day.

During house assemblies there were:
• Peter Kay impressions
• Holby City sketches
• Imitation dance scenes from Keith Lemon and Paddy McGuiness (boys dressed as
girls) ha-ha
• Quizzes where The Head of Haddon House–Mr Stirrup failed to answer Y5 science
questions and got the shaving foam treatment!!!
• In Chatsworth House children were encouraged to raise money to reveal pictures
of their Head of House covered by a grid.  Pupils raised enough to reveal 15
squares to see Mr Thomas with long hair in the 1980’s. Hilarious.

More seriously all houses watched the website stories and voted where they would
like their donations to go to. Windsor park total is over £500 so far and still
counting!......
6-A-SIDE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009

Windsor Park’s Year 6 a side team won the Stafford and District Schools
Championships held at Leasowes School in Stafford last Saturday morning (7th
March).

These lads won the Year 5 championships last year and came back this year to
retain the trophy.  As they did last year the boys played 7 games and won all
seven, beating Walton Priory Middle, Stone 2 – 0 in the final.

The boys are Brad Ede, Joel Dyche, Ross Finnie, Ross Bould, Mark Selway, Luke
Selway and Jacob Vernon-Nairne.

Deputy Headteacher and Head of P.E. Mr. Paul Slater said, ‘The boys did
extremely well to retain the trophy and remain unbeaten, especially as they
didn’t have a ‘specialist’ goalie so they took turns in goal!’

Cut out! School statue
A UTTOXETER school has shown off an unusual sculpture in its grounds thanks to a former teacher.

Will Appleby, a retired music teacher, now spends his spare time creating chainsaw sculptures and he has created one for Windsor Park First School, on the request of headteacher Chris James.

Mr James told The Advertiser: "We have always had a trophy at school of a wise owl and a pile of books and I asked Mr Appleby if he would be able to recreate it in a sculpture.

"We have put the sculpture in the middle of the school garden and I think it looks really good."

Year eight pupils from Windsor Park First School, in Springfield Road, Uttoxeter, took part in a national skipping competition and came up trumps by winning gold and silver awards.

The competition involved pupils from the school competing in teams of eight against schools from around Uttoxeter and surrounding areas in performing skipping skills for which they were awarded points by judges.

Luckily the youngsters from Windsor Park managed to bag a good result with team A skipping away with the gold medal while team B was able to rope in the silver medal.

Head of girls Physical Education Alison Powell said: "I am delighted with the results. The children were 100 per cent committed to their training and they truly deserved the gold and silver medal. It was a tough competition but an excellent way to keep fit and have fun."
